Stephen Nauta, LMSW/M-Div

Stephen Nauta, M-Div, LMSW brought to his practice a variety of experiences as both a social worker and a former minister. He has a steadfast belief that people can overcome mistakes and learn more effective ways to experience life, if they are offered a nonjudgmental environment in which they can think creatively about their life and circumstances. He worked with both adults and children. He holds marriage in great esteem and thrives on helping couples build more meaningful relationships.

Stephen has studied the subject of forgiveness and is skilled at integrating this concept into both individual and couples counseling.

When people, regardless of age, become anxious, they withdraw from the situation or become aggressive in an attempt to defend themselves. The young boy in My Dragon Breathes Fire chooses to react to his fears--a fire breathing dragon--through aggression toward those he both fears and loves. However, his behavior isn't helping as he finds himself in the principal's office on a regular basis. With the help of a therapist, the boy learns that his actions are driven by anxiety. Once he has this understanding, he is able to find new ways to address his anger and heal the relationships he has broken. My Dragon Breathes Fire is full of hope for people of all ages who find themselves hurting the ones they love.

Living with anxiety is like having a monster in your head who pretends to be your friend, while plotting to drain the joy from your life. Help, There Is A Dragon In My Head is the story of a young girl's struggle to overcome the imaginary dragon that is thwarting her pursuit of happiness. People of all ages will benefit from reading this young dragon slayer's tale of her courageous fight to overcome the fear that threatened to imprison her within the walls of her own mind.

In this family drama, Fran Vanderhuis faces the inevitable death of her oppressive husband of forty years. With the help of her eccentric therapist Marcia, Fran begins to find her voice and embarks on a plan to turn her life right side up.

Her first task is to reestablish her relationships with her three adult sons. Her plan is to do this by feeding them the foods she used to nurture them through their tumultuous childhoods. She hopes her cuisine will work its magic this second time around; healing the hearts she watched break twenty years ago. But first she has to convince them to come home to White Lake, Michigan for a weekend family reunion that has all the makings of a good plan gone bad.
